Probably the Funniest Photo Ever
This pic was snapped by the wedding photographer at Bisenius’s wedding… I’m not sure what is more prime – Ben’s fucking mustache or the pose. I laughed out loud when I first saw this.

Good news for any Howe Gelb fans out there – he’s coming to the Old Town School of Folk here in Chicago in early October. I’ve seen him perform once before in Los Angeles and I was blown away. He tours rather infrequently so don’t miss the chance to see him.

Well, I finally gave in and decided to check out Lollapalooza this weekend. I actually only made it on Saturday and while the event is pretty impressive I wasn’t that blown away by the performances I managed to see.
The main band I wanted to check out on Saturday was Interpol who happened to be headlining the Saturday list of acts. Unfortunately, to get a good spot to see their set I had to split from the Spoon show early and hike all the way to the opposite end of Grant Park where Interpol was playing. While Interpol sounded pretty good and played a slew of great songs spanning all three of their albums, I actually thought the Spoon show I left was a much tighter performance. Oh well, it’s was a judgment call and I’ll stick by my decision.

Some songs I can recall from the Interpol show were (in no particular order): ‘Slow Hands’, ‘No I in Threesome’, ‘Say Hello to the Angels’, ‘The Heinrich Maneuver’, ‘Mammoth’ and ‘The New’ among others.
The only song on this list that was a slight let down would be ‘Mammoth’ from the new album. The most interesting part of the song has to Daniel Kessler’s guitar riff following the chorus. For some reason this part was almost inaudible in the mix at the show.
Aside from Spoon and Interpol, I also caught Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah who still don’t do much of anything for me live and The Hold Steady who know how to put on a great show but their material doesn’t have much resonance for me personally (except for the song ‘Party Pit’ and it’s anthemic chorus lyric “I’m gonna walk around and drink some more”).
I was trying to think of the last show I’d been to before Lollapalooza and I’m ashamed to admit it’s been well over a month since I went to see The Veils at the Empty Bottle. More to come soon…
